Another guest post, by Kate!! -Kirstie
This week I saw a quote by Albert Einstein; it read – “Be a voice, not an echo.”
This quote really impacted me on so many levels and really made me sit back and think.
This quote is so relevant to life.
Many people are afraid to state their opinion in public because they are afraid it might be the wrong thing to say, or it’s not a popular opinion, or they think they might lose friends. Or maybe they won’t be as popular if people know their real opinion.
But if everyone thought this way then we wouldn’t have millions of books about courageous people who took a chance, who put themselves out there, who were willing to be judged and criticized.
Take Christianity for instance. Christianity is NOT a popular opinion in many sectors of life today, but it’s an opinion that needs to be shared. Don’t be afraid to speak up about your faith. It’s something people need to hear. If you are afraid to speak because of what people might think of you, then the person who really needs to hear about God might not hear about Him. In this time and age, we care too much about what others think of them. Don’t cave into peer pressure.
Fun fact: In a breakdown of different religious beliefs around the world, Christianity is the biggest, making up a little over 30% of the world’s population. I personally find this amazing because I feel like in my small, tiny corner of the world, the nonbelievers would make up more because their voices are the loudest.
Christianity is the biggest religious group IN THE WORLD. If everyone had been afraid to be a voice then Christianity would not be the biggest, but lucky for us they were not afraid to be a voice and say what they believed. Many Christians have been hunted and murdered for sharing the Word, but they still did it.
Now look at us, we are afraid to say what we believe because of other people’s opinion of us. Others have been willing to be a voice and be murdered – MURDERED, for their faith. We have the freedom to speak up about our faith, yet we keep it hidden, locked up inside of us. Why?
Another thing about this quote that had me thinking was how impactful just a few words can be. Six words, that’s it. “Be a voice, not an echo.”
Six little words. That’s all it took for me to sit back and think – How am I impacting people?
So now I ask you – How are you impacting people?
With words of joy and encouragement or words of hatred and anger? Be careful what you say. Once said, “your words can only be forgiven, not forgotten” ~ Anonymous. So make sure you think before you speak because your words do have an impact, both good and bad. But don’t be afraid to speak. Share the words of Life with another person today.
What is something someone has told you that has impacted your life? Make sure you thank them for not being afraid to speak up.
Be a voice today.
“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
